Dulux starts rationing paint after ‘exceptional demand’ from DIYers wanting to improve their homes during lockdown
- Dulux has been forced to cap the amount of tester pots it sells online each day
- Regular pots of paints can no longer be purchased online after surge in demand
- Customers are being turned away online due to ‘overwhelming order volumes’
Dulux has been forced to stop selling paint pots and ration its tester kits after lockdown brought about ‘exceptional demand’ from bored DIYers looking to improve their home.
The paint company has had to introduce a limit on the number of items that can be purchased after Brits flooded the brand with orders.
Only tester pots can now be purchased online – and there is even a strict limit on those.

A message on the Dulux website reads: ‘We are now taking new orders for testers only via this website, however to manage continued exceptional demand, we are limiting the number of orders taken each day.
‘If our daily capacity has been reached you will see a message displayed when trying to add items to your shopping cart, and we ask you try again the next day.’
Last week, the company was forced to suspend shipping on testers altogether as Brits desperately tried to decorate their homes.

Then, a message on the company’s website read: ‘We’re sorry. Due to overwhelming order volumes we have suspended taking further orders today. Please try again tomorrow.’
Those trying to get their hands on mini versions of the brand’s paint saw the message several days running last week.
The boom in orders is thought to be related to lockdown, with more people keen to give their home a makeover.
A spokesman said: ‘Due to lockdown and people continuing to spend more time at home we have seen high demand for our testers and paints, as people take the time to tackle their DIY tasks.
‘As a result we have seen a significant increase in demand for testers year on year.
‘We’ve been gearing up our business to best support the increased demand and make it as easy and clear as possible for consumers to order with confidence while ensuring our teams can work safely.’
