DailyMail.com has reached out to Facebook for comment and has yet to receive a response.

DownDetector, which monitors service of online platforms, showed issue reports starting at 3:40pm ET with 36 complaints and quickly spiked to more than 11,000.

However, the users have been reloading over and over again without any success.

Although the outage is plaguing North and South America, it seems to be concentrated in specific areas.

In the US, users from New England, the Chicago area and parts of the Midwest are down.

Then Mexico City and Guadalajara in Mexico are also experiencing problems with the social media site.

Peru and Sao Paulo in South America are both blazing red on DownDetector’s map, along with Montreal in Canada to the north.
