Manchester United captain Harry Maguire insists they have ‘improved on defending set plays’ despite conceding stoppage-time equaliser from a corner in Southampton draw
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side looked on course to continue their fine winning run with a victory over the Saints at Old Trafford but had to settle for a point when Michael Obafemi tapped home from a corner.
Harry Maguire believes Manchester United have made progress at defending set pieces
Despite conceding a stoppage-time equaliser from a corner in Southampton draw on Monday
‘We have improved on defending set plays,’ Maguire told Sky Sports. ‘We had a terrible record at the start of the season but have been really good on them.
‘They can’t get in when we have four men around the goal so we’ll have to look at it.
‘We are disappointed at the moment but we dust ourselves down tomorrow.’
Michael Obafemi tapped home from set piece to stun United and seal a point at Old Trafford
The centre back, signed for £80million from Leicester last summer, appeared to have man-marked team-mate Aaron Wan-Bissaka for the injury-time corner – leaving Obafemi free to score.
Victory would have seen United move above Champions League chasing rivals Chelsea and Leicester into third but instead remain in fifth place with three games remaining.
